Hazel Burt FCCA
Associate Director, Macfarlane Gray Chartered Accountants.
Head of Tax Services, Macfarlane Gray Tax.
Hazel joined Macfarlane Gray Chartered Accountants in 1992. Hazel has specialised in tax for more than ten years and heads up the practice’s tax compliance and consultancy functions dealing with a varied client base of businesses together with private clients, trusts and charities.
Her specialisms include: capital taxes planning, personal tax planning for high net worth individuals, advising owner-managed businesses, tax investigations and property taxation. Hazel also provides tax consultancy services to solicitors and accountants.
Outwith Macfarlane Gray, Hazel served as the Scottish President of the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants for a period of two years and is currently a member of the Scottish committee with responsibility for taxation issues.
Tom Settle
Manager, Macfarlane Gray Tax
Tom’s tax career started over 25 years ago when he joined the Inland Revenue as a graduate entrant. After four years with the Revenue he crossed over to the private sector and has since enjoyed senior roles with firms in both Aberdeen and Edinburgh.
His work experience includes a two year spell for one of the “big 4” accounting firms as well as a similar period within the tax department of one of Scotland’s largest law firms, where he gained considerable knowledge and experience in dealing with both Trusts and Executries. Before joining Macfarlane Gray in 2008, Tom spent 6 years as manager of the tax department of a firm of accountants in Edinburgh.
With his own particular career background, Tom has a unique wealth of knowledge and experience in many areas of personal taxation. This is reflected in the fact that since joining Macfarlane Gray, he has become a regular contributor to several local publications.
